psu.jpgDec. 16, 2007 - The No. 1 Penn State women’s volleyball team captured the program’s second NCAA Championship tonight, winning a dramatic five-game final, 3-2, against No. 4 Stanford in Arco Arena.

 The Nittany Lions won the thriller, 30-25, 30-26, 23-20, 19-30, 15-8, posting their 26th consecutive victory since a five-game loss to the Cardinal exactly three months ago. Penn State finished the season with a superlative 34-2 record, bringing the championship trophy back to Happy Valley to join the program’s 1999 crown.

Dec. 13, 2007 -Stanford will play against third-seeded Penn State, which swept No. 10 California  in the semifinal. Penn won its only volleyball title in 1999 and will be making its fifth appearance in the final and first since winning it all.

The Cardinals, who advance to final after defeating USC, are seeking their seventh NCAA title and first since 2004. They’ve captured back-to-back regular-season conference titles for the first time since winning six straight in the late 1990s. Stanford and Penn State are the only teams to appear in every NCAA tournament.

The match on Saturday Dec. 15 at 6:00 p.m. PT (9:00 p.m. ET) will be shown live on ESPN2 and can also be heard online at www.GoPSUsports.com.

Dec. 10, 2007 - The second-ranked Nebraska volleyball team saw its hopes for a repeat national championship come to an end as 10th-seeded California made more plays down the stretch in eliminating the Huskers from the NCAA Tournament.

The Thursday night semis will see No. 1 seed Stanford (31-2) face No. 5 seed Southern California (29-4) at Arco Arena in a matchup of two Pacific-10 Conference powerhouses.

No. 3 seed Penn State (32-2) will play No. 10 seed California (26-7) in the second semifinal in a match-up of two of the premier blocking teams in the country.

Dec. 7 2007 - Regional play begins today and continues Saturday for the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. No. 2 Nebraska hasn’t dropped a set and hope to keep that distinction vs. Michigan St. No. 1 ranked Stanford plays Cal Poly, and No. 3 Penn St. tests their will against Michigan.
