October  31, 2008 - A little over a year ago, we did a post about cyclist Tara Llanes who was badly injured in a race. Her road to recovery has been long and hard fought and her many friends and fellow cyclists have teamed up on numerous occassions to help her out.  The latest event to get Tara back on her feet is a race next weekend at the Sand Hill Ranch Bike Park in Brentwood, California.

Check out the Road to Recovery race:

July 22, 2008 - This past weekend was a “Pretty Tough” weekend for BMX racing at the Music City National which was held in Nashville Tennessee.

The Elite class put on a great show of BMX racing especially in the Elite Women’s Class. One female rider who really rocked was Stephanie Barragan of California. Even with a few crashes around her and the hot weather it didn’t stop her from taking home 2 first place wins both on Saturday and on Sunday.

Barragan currently leads the Elite Women’s class in points with Madison Pitts of Florida trailing in second. These two women and many more will compete for the Grand National title which is held annually in Louisville Kentucky. June 24, 2008 - Jill Kintner thought her Olympic dream ended four weeks ago, when she was writhing in the dirt, screaming in agony after re-injuring her chronically right knee in a training crash.

She felt no pain Saturday.

By finishing sixth at the BMX world championships in Taiyuan, China, the 26-year-old from Seattle earned enough points to barely edge Arielle Martin of Pleasant Grove, Utah, in USA Cycling’s year long battle for the lone automatic women’s BMX berth into this summer’s Beijing Olympics.

“I didn’t even know it was possible,” Kintner said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Saturday from Taiyuan. “For it to come down like this, I don’t know what to think. There had to be some higher forces working for me.”

However, the day will likely be remembered as bittersweet for the American women, most of whom struggled Saturday. Although the official rankings have not yet been confirmed by the International Cycling Union, calculations by USA Cycling show they will have only one women’s start position in the Beijing Games – meaning while Kintner races for Olympic gold, her close friend Martin will be watching.
