March 20, 2008 - Kansas University’s third baseman, Val Chapple, is the USA National Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of March 10 - 16.
The Jayhawk junior went 7 - 8 at the plate, slamming four homers in three games over the weekend. Arizona State (30-1) continues to dominate competition, once again earning the top spot of the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll. UCLA (26-3) secures the second spot, while Alabama (24-3) ranks third. USA softball’s head coach, Mike Candrea, is one of five finalists for the prestigious 2007 National Coach of the Year award. Candrea earned the honor in 2004 and has been a finalist five times.
