First athlete gets the ax on Celebrity Apprentice

Jennie Finch on Celebrity Apprentice Jan. 11, 2008 - The women lost last night and spent the second straight episode of The Celebrity Apprentice in the boardroom as Donald Trump was forced to fire a superstar athlete.

The show began as the remaining thirteen celebrities were divided into their gender groups, Empresario and Hydra, and assigned a task to create a thirty-second ad for Pedigree Adoption Drive, which helps raise money and find homes for four million dogs that are put in shelters every year. Teams were judged based on their commercial’s message, originality, and creativity.  Immediately, both teams split up and went to work.

Empresario chose producer, Nely Galan, as their project manager, while Hydra chose musician, Gene Simmons. The women chose to interview Pedigree to gather facts before shooting. The men, on the other hand, began filming their commercial right away, with Simmons and actor, Stephen Baldwin taking over the decision-making.  As both teams unveiled their commercials to Pedigree, Empresario went above and beyond with their presentation, dressing up in Pedigree colors, creating both a web, and radio ad, and acting very enthusiastic.

Hydra, on the other hand, showed their commercial to an irritated Pedigree, since they never bothered to ask what the company was looking for.  Back in the boardroom, Simmons was immediately reprimanded by Trump when it was discovered he had insulted Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, during a surprise visit, by asking her if she was going to tell Empresario what they were doing because of a sisterhood bond.  Surprisingly, Hydra was declared the winner by Pedigree for their emotional, celebrity endorsed commercial.

For the second straight episode, the women were left to battle in the boardroom.  After the men left, Trump turned to fastpitch phenom, Jennie Finch and asked her whom she would fired. After hesitating, she finally spoke saying she thought although everyone worked hard as a team, either, gymnast, Nadia Comaneci or model, Carol Alt, should be fired. When Trump asked why Nadia, she said, “She didn’t have a task.”

Consequently, Comaneci, Alt, and Galen were left to battle it out. After coming to the conclusion that although Comaneci is an amazing athlete, she lacks the skills to successfully lead a business team, Trump fired Comaneci. Surprisingly, Trump was noticeably disturbed after firing Comaneci saying, “That was tough”.

Next Thursday should be interesting as Gene Simmons jumps ship to join the women. What do you think will happen? Do you think Nadia deserved to be fired? The Celebrity Apprentice will re-air the first two episodes on Saturday, January 12th starting at 8 p.m. on NBC.
