Give it a tri - triathlon training
The triathlon is an athletic event consisting of swimming, cycling and running. This three sport competition varies in distance and style. In the Olympic Games, triathletes swim 1.5K, bike a 40K and run a 10K. If you want to give it a tri, read on.

If you’re thinking of trying a a triathlon, here are a few tips:
Before The Race
- Find a race with distances you’re comfortable with. You don’t have to start with an Ironman.
- Register early. A lot of races fill up quickly.
- Join a local club to train. Clubs offer a lot of support in meeting your goals and learning about the sport.
- Make sure all of your equipment is in good working condition.
- Arrive early to get all your equipment set up and in place.
Swim
- Join a swim club to help develop some technique.
- If you’re uncomfortable in open water, look for a race that has a pool swim.
- If you feel tired during the swim, roll over on your back or switch to an easier stroke.
- Wear dark tinted googles if it’s bright outside.
Bike
- Stay on the right-hand side of the road unless you’re going to pass.
- Ride any bike you feel comfortable on. It’s not necessary to have a fancy bike, especially when you first start racing.
- Learn how to mount and dismount your bike easily.
- Tie a balloon or marker to your bike so you can find it easily in the transition area.
Run
- If you need to, you can walk portions.
- Wear socks to avoid blisters.
- Find a shoe that is properly fitted to your foot.
