Nifty fifty to watch for POY Award

Jan. 31, 2008 - Yesterday, the ASA announced its fifty players to watch for the 2008 collegiate softball prestigious Player of the Year award.

Among the fifty gracing the list include, Arizona catcher, Callista Balko, Texas pitcher, Megan Denny, and UCLA outfielder, Krista Colburn.

The recipient of this outstanding award does not have to appear on the initial watch list, but does have to be named as one of the 25 finalists, which will be announced on April 9th. Then, on May 7^th, the ASA will narrow the field down to the top ten. On May 21^st, the three finalists will be named and the 2008 USA National Collegiate Player of the Year will be awarded prior to the start of the College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Past winners of the coveted player of the year award include, three-timer, Texas pitcher, Cat Osterman and last year’s winner, University of Tennessee pitcher, Monica Abbott, both currently training for the 2008 Olympics.
