August 11, 2008 - Today marked the official start of Olympic softball competition as Team USA defeated Venezuela, 11-0 in five innings. The eleven run win broke the Olympic record for the most runs scored in a game by a single team. The victory also increased Team USA’s Olympic win streak to 15.
On the mound, Jennie Finch and Monica Abbott combined for a no hit performance. Finch struck out 5 and walked 2 in four innings. At the plate, Team USA recorded 11 hits, including homeruns by Natasha Watley, Caitlin Lowe, and Crystl Bustos.
