#1 - Serena soars to win US Open
September 7, 2008 - Serena Williams is back on top! She won the 2008 US Open Women’s title last night and we couldn’t be happier! The third time champion defeated No. 2 seed Jelena Jankovic in a thrilling 6-4, 7-5 final in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 23-year-old Jankovic, who was appearing in her first Grand Slam final, fought gamely to the end and won the hearts of hordes of fans.
Serena’s win also earns her the No. 1 ranking ending weeks of speculation along with a check for $1.5 million. In addition, she garnered the best TV ratings for a women’s final match since 2002. You go girl!
